- Evelyn I. Leonhardt, 74, Stratford, died at 7:50 pm Monday at St. Josephs Hospital Hospice Care Unit, Marshfield, where she had been admitted Sept. 2.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 am Thursday at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Stratford. The Rev. Joseph A. Grassl officiated. Burial was in St. Josephs Cemetery. Pallbearers were Todd, Doug, and Craig Leonhardt, Randy Frane, Tim Swacker, and Tom Drexler.
She was born Dec. 2, 1913, in Crandon, to Gustave and Louise Polege. She attended St. Josephs Parochial School and Stratford High School.
She was married to John "Jack" Leonhardt Sr. on Nov. 18, 1930, at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Stratford.
They lived in Stratford until 1932 when they moved to Little Rose where they owned and operated the Little Rose Bar and Lanes. In 1949, they moved to Colby where they owned and operated a grocery store for 1-1/2 years. They then returned to Little Rose to operate the bar and lanes until 1976 when they retired and sold the business to their sons, Jerry and James.
She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, the Parish Council of Catholic Women, and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. She was a charter member of the Tops Club and the Little Rose Homemakers.
She is survived by her husband, John; five daughters, Mrs. Earl (Rita) Eisenberg of New Holland, Pa., Mrs. Charles (Mary Ann) Drexler of Stratford, Mrs. John (Judy) Becker of Unity, Mrs. Roger (Marilyn) Swacker of Menomonee, Mich., and Mrs. Jeff (Barbara) Renninger of Lititz, Pa.; four sons, Robert, James, and Richard, all of Stratford, and Jerry of Spencer; 25 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, one brother, two sons, one daughter, and four grandchildren.
