The crew was under the leadership of Cap tain M. Haushele. A priest by the name of Father van der Poel was o ne of the nine-four passengers aboard. John Coenen, the son of Theodore C oenen and Johanna van den Berg wrote this account. He was fourteen years o ld at the time he journeyed with his family to America.About 1848, seeing that his children could have better opportunities in t he United States, Theodore Coenen sold his little property in Boekel and s ailed with his family from Rotterdam in a vessel bound for Philadelphi a. They landed in that city after a voyage of 48 days and then their dest ination being in Brown County, Wisconsin, proceeded at once by rail to Alb any, New York, thence via the Erie Canal to Buffalo, New York, and from th ere by the old steamer "Michigan" to Green Bay, Wisconsin where they land ed in early June of 1848
