History of Outagamie County (1912): Henry and Antoinette (Van Handel) Ham men, natives of Holland, came to Little Chute in 1849 and 1853, respective ly. They were married here in 1854, settled down to farming, and here spe nt the remainder of their lives. Mr. Hammen died in July, 1905, and his w ife twenty years before. They had a family of seven children, of whom on ly three survive. Mrs. Jansen of West De Pere; George, a prominent farm er of Buchanan Township, Outagamie County; and John.

Wife: Antonetta Van Handel, born F eb. 24, 1824 in Hilvarenbeek, Noord Brabant, died July 8, 1876 in Little C hute, married Feb. 29, 1855 in Little Chute.
"July 28, 1904: The funeral of Henry Hammen, aged 85, was held from St. J ohn's Church last Monday morning and was attended by the St. John's socie ty of which he was a member. Deceased was born in Holland October 24, 18 19 and came to this country in October 1848 landing in Milwaukee. In Mar ch 1849 he walked to Little Chute where he has since resided. He is o ne of the oldest and most respected settlers and esteemed by all. He leav es two sons and one daughter, George and John of this place and Annie (Mr s. Peter Jansen) of West De Pere. May he rest in peace."
