- Milton J. (Mick) Collar, 86 passed away on February 8, 2015 at Cherry Meadows in Appleton. Milt was born in New London, WI on August 13, 1928 the son of the late Milton and Helen (nee: Edminster) Collar.
Milt married Ruth Lueck on June 24, 1950. She preceded him in death on March 20, 1977. He married Shirley Hughes Kronschnabel on August 11, 1979.
Milt worked at Appleton Papers for 39 years, retiring in 1989. He was also a Hortonville Volunteer Fire Fighter and a lifelong member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Milt was a graduate of Hortonville High School class of 1947 where he was very active in basketball and baseball. He was inducted into the Hortonville High School Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013 and remained a devoted lifelong Hortonville High School sports fan. Milt enjoyed attending his grandchildrens' various activities.
Milt won the 1967 Professional Archers Association Indoor State archery championship. Milt owned and operated Collar Stalker Archery for many years and got many people in the Hortonville area interested in the sport of archery. He was a Bear Archery dealer and Fred Bear gave him a private tour of the Bear Archery Plant in Grayling, MI. He was an accomplished ping pong player, coached many softball teams and rarely missed watching a Brewer, Packer or Badger game.
An avid deer and bear hunter, Milt was a lifetime member of the Wisconsin Bowhunters Association. Some of his favorite times were spent at his hunting cabin in Waupaca. In his earlier years, he enjoyed spending time with his family during annual vacations to the Minocqua area.
Milt is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley, his children and grandchildren: Jolene (Larry) Lamers, son Clint Lamers; Brad (Jean) Collar, children Jodie Collar, Danny (Julie) Collar and their children Easton and Madelyn, and Kristina Collar; Janelle (Steve) Puckett, children Matt (Erika) Cooper and Derek Puckett (fiancé Sam Nimmer); and Jana Collar (fiancé Don Ogden).
He is further survived by Shirley's children and grandchildren: Ann (Jeff) Pierre, children Carolyn (Travis) Pedersen and their children Jack and Benjamin; John (Laura) Pierre; and Kristin Pierre (Chad Balthazor); Karmen Jones, daughter Jessica (Mike) Sherman; and Ken Kronschnabel, children Taylor and Sam. Milt is also survived by sister-in-law Winnifred Laabs; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Milt was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth, brother Bob Collar, and brother-in-law Gilbert Laabs.
The funeral service for Milton will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hortonville, with Rev. Joel Jenswold officiating. Family and friends may visit directly at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Hortonville.
The family extends a special thank you to the caring nurses from Theda Care at Home Hospice Care and to the compassionate caregivers at Cherry Meadows who provided the final parting gifts of dignity and peace. The family would also like to thank Rev. Ralph Rosenberg and Rev. Joel Jenswold for their spiritual care and compassion during this difficult time. -
