- DeGroot (Morrie), Maurice F.Maurice F. (Morrie) DeGroot, born on September 12, 1916, in Combined Lock s, Wisconsin, was called home by his creator at 3:58 p.m. on May 2, 2005.December 1941 he enlisted in the Air Force, attaining the rank of Major. S erved as an instructor pilot for 3 years and flew P40 and P51 fighter plan es. He retired as president, of Dairyland County Mutual and deputy C EO of Sentry Insurance. A faithful member of St. Ignatius Catholic Churc h, and an active member of the Knights of Columbus, he served as a 4th Deg ree Knight. During his business years he was a member of the Austin Juni or Chamber of Commerce. Morrie, who loved the outdoors, was an avid golf er and fly fisherman. After retirement he enjoyed traveling.He is survived by sons, M.F. (Bud) and wife Lynn of Liberty Hill, Texas; R obert and wife Kem of The Woodlands, Texas; Steve and wife Cheryl of Austi n, Texas; Jim and wife Donna of Dripping Springs, Texas; Tom and wife Penn ie of Sugarland, Texas; Don and wife Barbara of Lago Vista, Texas; daughte r, Mary Kay and husband Chuck of Cedar Park, Texas; and close friend Barba ra Morgensen of Austin, Texas; as well as several brothers and sister s; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.Morrie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 52 years, Ma ry Jane.The family wishes that memorial contributions be given to the charity of y our choice.Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Wilke-Cl ay Fish Funeral Home. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will follow at 7 p .m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, M ay 6, 2005, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with Father Joe Tomei officiat ing.
