- Arthur J. Kessler, 100, Neenah, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at his residence. He was born Sept. 19, 1905, in Little Chute, son of George and Bertha (Wegenke) Kessler. Art married Margaret Gosz, Sept. 28, 1935, in Appleton and she preceded him in death March 4, 1968. He married Marion Jones in Neenah and she preceded him in death July 11, 1989. He married Ruth Van Handel Miller in Appleton and she survives him. Mr. Kessler, a funeral director since 1934, owned and operated the Kessler Funeral Home in Neenah from 1940 to 1972. He was a former member of the National, Wisconsin and Fox River Valley Funeral Directors Associations. Art was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Neenah; a member of the Knights of Columbus, Nicolet Council, and the Allouez Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; a charter member of the Neenah Lions Club and a member of the Neenah-Menasha Elks Lodge #676.Art attended Lawrence Conservatory of Music for clarinet lessons and loved to play the clarinet. He played clarinet with the 120 Field Artillery Band of Appleton, the Appleton Elks Band, the City of Appleton Municipal Band, the Masonic Concert Band in St. Petersburg, Florida and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Marching and Concert Band in Oshkosh.
Mr. Kessler is survived by his wife, Ruth; his sons and daughter: Richard and Adrienne Kessler, Wisconsin Rapids; Jean Kessler and her friend Cathy Van Deurzen, Neenah; George and Ann Kessler, Neenah; Jim and Laura Kessler, Mendota Heights, Minnesota; his brother, Robert and Mary Kessler, Kimberly; his grandchildren: Lisa (David) Barrientez, Jeffrey (Joan) Kessler, David (Olga) Kessler, Michael (Tonya) Kessler, Jason (Mary Anne) Kessler, Ryan (Jessica) Kessler, Derek Kessler, Nicholas and Sara Rech; 15 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews
He was also preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Mary Kessler Lelaumier; grandson, Timothy A. Kessler; two brothers: Edward (Mary) Kessler and Lawrence Kessler; two sisters: Sister Marie Therese Kessler and Sister Sponsa Kessler.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at St. Margaret Mary Church with Rev. Michael L. Ingold officiating. Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Friends may call at the Kessler Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the mass. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established for the Valley VNA Assisted Living Community.
