- Chester J. Dietzen, 70, passed away on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009. He was born Dec. 21, 1938, to John and Alice (Schwalbach) Dietzen. After graduating from St. Mary Central High School in 1957, Chester served in the Air Force for six years. He married Lilas Meier on June 18, 1963. While serving in the Air Force and stationed in Japan, Chester organized the first Little League game between two Japanese teams. He was involved in a wide range of youth and civic organizations over his lifetime including Holy Angels basketball, Boy Scouts, Volunteers in Probation, Appleton Foxes, and was currently serving on the Town of Harrison and Calumet County Boards as a supervisor and on the Wisconsin Towns Association board.
Chester is survived by his sons Douglas, Russell (Nancy Jo), Michael, Gregory (Laurie), Steven (Pami), and Daniel, grandchildren Kyra, Avery, Bailey, Katlynn, Jack and Kyle. He is further survived by his brothers Paul (Judy), and Ray (Carrie), brothers and sisters in law, Jan Dietzen, Claude, and Robert Meier, Lovey Halfmann, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Chester was preceded in death by his wife Lilas, his parents, John and Alice Dietzen, his mother and father in law, Peter and Verona (Hilger) Meier, his brother Andy, brothers and sisters in law Donald Meier, Clifford and Delores Meier, Merlin and Bernie Meier, Donald Halfman and Sylvia Meier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at St Bernadette Church with the Rev. Don Zuleger officiating. Visitation will be held at church on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m., visitation will continue from 9 until the hour of Mass on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
