- Robert R. "Bob" Bergman, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016. Bob was born on March 19, 1929 to the late Peter and Mary (Reichel) Bergman in Kaukauna, he graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1947. He served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and on July 12, 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Mary Ellen Williamsen at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton.
He is survived by his son Jim, two daughters; Sandy (Kirk) Nichols and Shari (Greg) Anderson, four grandchildren; Ashley Bergman, Luke Anderson, Sam Anderson and Lily Nichols, four step grandchildren; Jason (Callie) Lauer, Jacquelyn (Matt) McQuaid, Jon Nichols and Joe (Catherine) Nichols, eight step great grandchildren; Ashlee, Scout, Samantha, Jersey, Willem, Beckett, Emy and Ryker.
Other survivors include: sister and brother-in-law Shirley and John Hietpas, sister-in-law Donna Petersen as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob, Bruce, Brian and Blaine Lyons; Lynn McCrary, Barb Johnson, Shawn Hietpas, Brenda Lythjohan, Lori Stiljes, Kelly VerBust, Dan Petersen and Margie Petersen-White.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Peter Bergman, his loving wife Mary Ellen, sister Genevieve Bergman Lyons, twin sister Jacqueline Bergman, brother Eugene Bergman, mother and father-in-law Raymond and Jeanette Williamsen and sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Ken Petersen.
The family wishes to thank special niece Shawn Hietpas for her many visits which he always looked forward to; lifelong friends Jean and Bob Van Der Loop for the Tuesday movie nights and the time they spent together after mom died; Bob and Carol Dewall for keeping in touch; Affinity Hospice for their loving care and support for us over the last few weeks and to the entire staff of the Appleton Retirement Community, especially Becca who was there around the clock in dad's final days.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, February 20, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 W. Lawrence St, Appleton with Fr. Jim Leary, OFM Cap. Officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until the time of service at the church. Military honors to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Saint Joseph Church, Affinity Hospice or a charity of your choice .
