- Elwyn D. Schroeder, Kaukauna, age 82, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, surrounded by family and friends at Appleton Medical Center. He was born to the late Norman and Emma (Kussow) Schroeder on May 15, 1924, in the Town of Lawrence. He married Margaret Reed at St. Mary Catholic Church, Kaukauna, on July 20, 1946. They enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. Elwyn worked at the Manitowoc ship yards on submarines during WWII. He was employed as a welder at Thilmany's from July 1945, until his retirement in September 1986. He enjoyed 20 years of retirement. He and his brother Norman owned and operated the Schroeder Service Station in Wrightstown. They also operated an auto repair service in Wrightstown, at his brother Norman's home. He was a member of the Thilmany Quarter Century Club. Elwyn was an avid NASCAR and Packer fan. He owned six horses and took great pride and enjoyment in caring for them; they were a big part of his life. He also enjoyed eating breakfast every morning with his friends of the breakfast club. He enjoyed getting together with his family at family functions and enjoyed reminiscing and laughing about good times. His family meant the world to him. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also had a dog named Riley that was his constant companion and friend.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Schroeder; four daughters: Carole (Dennis) Pankratz and their children, Trisha and Lindsay, Nancy Schroeder, Gail (Jeffrey) Gustman and their children, Aaron (Shelby), Matthew (fiance Amanda Wolf) and Melissa (special friend John Biesterveld); and Mary (Allan) Kuklinski; two sons: Richard (Linda) Schroeder and their children, Tammy (fiance Jay Klapps) Nieuwenhuis, Jennifer (Brian) Bushman, Robert and Jonathan Schroeder and Chad Robenhorst, Mark (Linda) Schroeder and their children, Eric (Jessica) Schroeder, Nichole and Emily (special friend Michael Baudhuin) Schroeder, four great-grandchildren: Aaron Nieuwenhuis, Brianna and Makenna Bushman, Makaida Kilgas; two brothers: Edward (Gloria) Schroeder and Norman Schroeder. He is further survived by his wife's family, Bernard (Evelyn) Reed, Maurice (Janice) Reed, Edward (Marie Jo) Reed, Elaine (Phillip) Fischer, Ceil (Lloyd) Van Dyn Hoven, and Dorothy (Vernon) Holsbach.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Emma, brother-in-law, Philip Reed, sister-in-law Mary Smith and her husband Louis Smith, his wife's parents, Bernard and Agnes Reed.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., on Saturday, December 23, 2006, at ST. MARY of the ANNUNCIATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, with Fr. Jerry Pastors and Deacon Maurice Reed co-officiating. Friends will be received on Friday, December 22, 2004, at the BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna, from 4 p.m. until the 7:30 p.m. Parish Prayer Service and again on Saturday, at Church, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in his name. 920-766-2099.
