- Kenneth W. Van Hoof, Little Chute, 89, died Friday Nov. 16, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Ken was born in Freedom on April 28, 1918, to the late Matthew and Anna (Romenesko) Van Hoof. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in North Africa, France and Germany. On Nov. 6, 1945, Ken married the love of his life, Florence Reynebeau, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 2000. Ken was a lifelong member of St. John's, the 3rd Order of the Norbertines and the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258. He founded Van Hoof Oil Company and Parkside Care Center. Ken loved good conversation, golf, bowling and horseshoes. He was always a generous and caring man who loved to spend time with his family. Times at the family cottage at Lee Lake will be warmly remembered.
Ken is survived by his children, Dennis (Susan), Granite Falls, Minn.; Pam (Don) Duddek, Pound; Rick, Little Chute; Tom (Joan), Shorewood; Terry, Neenah; and Mary (Tom) St. John, Little Chute; nine grandchildren, Matthew (Brenda), Dan (Shelley), Marty (Cyndi), Max, Annie Van Hoof and Monica Van Hoof, Jamie Duddek, Adam and Luke Van Dyn Hoven; six great-grandchildren, Spencer, Malachi, Kyra, Jack, Roen and Aiden; his sister, Marie Kamps; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice Van Domlen, Orion "Poogie" (Lois "Butchie"), Ceil and Charlotte Reynebeau, Rosella (Joe) Look, Rose and Mable Van Hoof. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Florence, Ken was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Walter, Clarence, Evelyn (Russell) Nackers and one infant brother, Joseph. Also, preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, George Kamps, Dorthy and Millie Van Hoof, Lee Schoenke, Marty Van Domlen, Myrtle (George) Roovers, Joe and Virgil "Butch" Reynebeau.
Visitation will begin Tuesday Nov. 20, 2007, at 3 p.m. until the time of Mass at 5 p.m. at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute). The Rev. James Hablewitz will officiate. Full military rites performed by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 will immediately follow Mass. Interment at St. John's Cemetery, Little Chute. A memorial is being established and in accordance with Ken's wishes, no funeral dinner will be held. Instead, the family will make donations to the Missions and charities that were close to Ken's heart.
