KAUKAUNA NEWS At noon yeste rday the city of Kaukauna was without fire protection and City Engineer Wi lliam HYLAND so informed the city officials and he was ordered to shut o ff the supply pipe of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway company, whi ch is using 30,000 gallons daily. The condition at the present time is unp recedented in the history of the city. Notwithstanding the dire need of ut most economy in every household, one man was found who has always boast ed of a nice green lawn, who let his faucet stay open every night to sprin kle his lawn. Engineer HYLAND reported only two feet of water in the sta nd pipe where it is expected to be never less than fifty and should be sev enty-five. There was not water enough in the reservoir at the pumping stat ion to start the pumps. The city is having a new well drilled but it wi ll be 30 to 60 days before it will be completed, meantime we pray for no f ires.
