- Margaret Vanderhyden
Margaret C. Vanderhyden, age 91, of Thorp, died at the Clark County Health Center, in Owen, on Monday, October 15, 2001 at 2:27 a.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2001, at St. Bernard's-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Thorp. Father John Puerner will officiate and burial will follow in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2001 at the Thorp Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. rosary service.
Margaret Catherine Micke was born on December 27, 1909 in the Town of Worden, Clark County, to the late Anton and Mary (nee Pritzel) Micke. She was raised and educated in rural Thorp. They resided in Thorp where Margaret was a housewife and raised her children. Her husband died on July 8, 1971. She continued to reside in Thorp until entering the nursing home.
Margaret was a member of St. Bernard's-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, a charter member of the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed sewing, gardening and playing cards.
She is survived by a daughter: Ann (Franklin) Lindstrom of Red Wing, MN; a son Richard (Sandra) Vanderhyden of Greenfield, WI; a step-son Junior Vanderhyden of Thorp; a step-daughter Dorothy (Cliff) Carlson of West Allis, WI; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two sisters: Marion Culbert of Eau Claire, WI and Lenore Haynes of Clearwater, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons in infancy, a daughter Masie Vanderhyden, a step-son Murvil Vanderhyden and a grandson Rick Vanderhyden.

On Tuesday morning at 6 o'clock a very quiet wedding took place when Margaret, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Micke, became the bride of Wilfred Vander Hyden, son of Mr. Gilbert Vander Hyden. The ceremony took place in St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Rev. A.M. Muckerheide officiating.
The bride was attired in a gown of wine transparent velvet with a turban to match. She carried a bouquet of white roses, white asters and larkspur. She was attended by her sister, Mrs. Robert Benzschawel, who was dressed in a gown of brown satin and a hat to match, and carried a bouquet of red roses and baby's breath.
The groom wore the conventional blue. He was attended by Robert Benzschawel who also was dressed in blue.
A wedding breakfast was served to immediate relatives at the home of the bride's parents, covers being laid for thirty.
The bride and groom, both well known in the community, have many friends who join "The Courier" in wishing them many years of wedded bliss.
The newlyweds left the same day on a trip to northern Wisconsin and the Black Hill.
