- Thomas Jerome Eiting, "Monk" Kaukauna, age 79, affectionately known as "Monk" by his friends, passed away after a brief illness on February 6, 2008. He was born to the late William Anton and Lillian (Keefe) Eiting on December 27, 1928, in Kaukauna, and lived there most of his life. He retired from Kimberly-Clark, Kimberly. Following retirement, Thomas also held a position as a Security Guard at AAL in Appleton. He served in the Army during the Korean War, and was stationed at Panama. He enjoyed watching sports, especially Milwaukee Brewers baseball and Green Bay Packers football games. He loved to play cribbage with anyone who had some spare time to spend with him. In his last days, he liked to reminisce about high school, Army buddies, his boxing days, his tavern friends, and family. He was a kind, quiet, gentle man.
Thomas had seven wonderful children with his wife of almost 25 years, Theresa M. Eiting (Vande Burgt). They are: Karen (Donald) Lardinois, Hortonville; Diane (John) Allen, Appleton; Thomas, Shiocton; Judy (Terry) Abitz, Appleton; Lori Verhoeven, Kaukauna; Kelly Selig (special friend, Dean Brochtrup), Freedom; and Steve (Karen) Eiting, Kaukauna; nine grandchildren: Kurt and Jennifer Lardinois, Kyle and Nicholas Selig, Anthony Verhoeven, Justin and Nicole Eiting, and John Abitz; two step-grandchildren: Jamie Otto and John Allen II; one great-grandchild, Riley Woolcott. Thomas also welcomed into his family Michael and Kimberly Brochtrup. He has one surviving sister, Margaret Coffey, and one surviving sister-in-law, Rose Eiting, his former wife, and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brothers Robert and William (Lillian), his sister Adeline (Herbert) Niesen, and his brother-in-law Clifton Coffey.
Visitation will begin Monday February 11, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. until the time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. at HOLY CROSS PARISH (301 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna). The Rev. Martin Fox will officiate. Military rites performed by the Kaukauna VFW Post 3319 will immediately follow Mass. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery.
