- Smits, Mrs. Harold (Mabel ), De Pere.Age 95, passed away Wednesday morning October 10, 2001. The daughter of t he late August and Cecelia (Puyleart) Gauthier was born on May 9, 19 06 in Green Bay and lived in this area all her life. On November 23, 192 7, the former Mabel Gauthier and Harold E. Smits were married at St. Jose ph Catholic Church De Pere by Abbot Bernard Pennings. She was a memb er of St. Mary Catholic Community De Pere and the Christian Ladies Socie ty at the church. She was also famous for her baking. She was devoted to h er family. Survivors include 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law: Veramae and Ro bert Peters, De Pere, Mary and James Powers, Neenah, Lynda Heuvelman s, De Pere. 4 sons and daughters in-law: James H. and Mary Helen Smits, Fa lls Church,Virginia, Gerald and Jill Smits, De Pere, Roy and Dawn Smits, E au Claire,Thomas and Judy Smits, Green Bay, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Smit s, De Pere; 28 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great gr andchildren; 1sister Lucille (Harold) Beaupre, Green Bay. 3 sisters-in-la w, Irene Gauthier,Green Bay; Agnes Smits, Mary (Clarence) Pasterski, a ll of De Pere numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in dea th by a her husband Harold, grandson Gerald Smits Jr., 2 brothers and 1 si ster-in-law, Walter and Dorothy Gauthier and Norbert Gauthier. 2 daughters -in-law Clara Mae Smits, and Mary Lou Smits. Friends may call on Sunday Oc tober 14, 2001 from 4:00 p.m-6:00 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home 860 N.Webst er Ave., De Pere. Parish prayer service 6:00 p.m. Visitation will contin ue on Monday October 15, 2001 from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Cathol icCommunity, Pope John XXIII Circle off Sportsman Drive, Town of Ledgeview .Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Donald Marquardt officia ting. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fu nd has been established.
