- Skell, Mary A.Mary A. Skell, 83, of Appleton passed away Monday, January 2, 2006, at Che rry Meadows Hospice following a courageous battle with cancer. Mary was bo rn June 10, 1922, in Forest Junction, the daughter of the late Henry and M ae (Brochtrup) Brooks. She has resided in the Fox Valley all of her lif e. Mary was employed as a nurse's aid at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 25 yea rs, retiring in 1980. She was united in marriage to Paul Skell September 1 7, 1947, sharing 45 years together before his death in 1992. Mary was a me mber of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Ladies of Sacred Heart. S he was an active volunteer and worked at the keen-agers Thrift Shop and di stributed communion at Manor Care. Mary served in the Navy Waves during Wo rld War II and was stationed at several Navy Hospitals on the east coas t. Mary will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, and a wonderful h ousekeeper. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed the cruise with h er daughter Sue. Mary liked helping others and was always willing to he lp out.Survivors include a daughter Sue DeLain of Milwaukee; a son Robert (Sand y) Skell of Menasha; three grandchildren Chris DeLain of Oak Creek; Tim Sk ell of S. Beloit; and Jennifer Skell of Gainesville, FL; brothers Adrian B rooks of Asketon, Franklin Brooks of Kaukauna, Henry Brooks of Asketon, F r. Charles Brooks of Mackville, and Roger "Duke" (Alice) Brooks of Holland town; sisters Roseanne (Fred) Ponschock of Appleton, Sister Mary Hen ry of Kaukauna, Betty (Marvin) Radermaker of Wrightstown, and Janet (Jak e) Huber of Stingleville; a brother-in-law John Kemkes of Darboy and a sis ter-in-law Judi Brooks of Combined Locks.In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a son Rick Skel l; sisters Virginia Brooks and Therese Kemkes; brothers John, Joseph, Rich ard and Jacob Brooks; sisters-in-law Janelle, Helen, and Betty Brooks.The Mass of resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Janua ry 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., with Fr. Charl es Brooks officiating. Friends may call directly at the church (Sacred Hea rt Room) from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service.
