- Shirley C. Bergner, 90, Menasha, formerly of Appleton, passed away on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center. Shirley was born on June 19, 1918, in Appleton, daughter of the late Clifford and Clara (Olm) Smith. She married Laverne H. Bergner on June 28, 1941, in Appleton. Shirley enjoyed playing golf, cribbage and bridge. Shirley and Laverne spent many winters in Texas, until deciding to stay home all year round to be close to family.
She is survived by her daughter, Sancee Joy (John) Riese, and her sister, Pat Schink, both of Appleton. Shirley is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher, Julie and David Riese and Jeannie (Kevin) Stolzman; her great-grandchildren, Dustin, Joshua, Brittany, Andy, Brady, Shane, Ben and Tanya; and her great-great-grandchildren, Annillesse, Nevaeh, Lydia, Jessa, Brianne and Alexis.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Laverne; her sister, Jane Stoeger; and brothers-in-law, Norm Stoeger and Conrad Schink.
Memorial services for Shirley will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton, with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services.
A memorial is being established.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oakridge Gardens for the wonderful care that was given to Shirley in her last days.
