- Violet Marzahl, age 91, Kaukauna, was called to her Lord's waiting arms on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at the Appleton Medical Center. Violet was born in the town of Woodville on September 5, 1917, daughter of the late Alfred and Erna (Fierke) Retzlaff. Later that month, she was received as a child of God through Holy Baptism, also in Woodville, and those same baptismal vows were confirmed by her in 1928, also at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Woodville. She graduated from Kaukauna High School and attended technical college for one year. On May 15, 1941, Violet married Alfred Marzahl at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Kaukauna. Together the couple raised five children. Violet was a longtime and faithful member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church and it's Women's Aid. For many years she was also a member of the American Legion Post #41 Auxiliary where she had served as president and treasurer, and was a member of the auxiliary Past Presidents' Parley. Many will remember that she also worked for Kaukauna's election committee for over thirty five years. For more than twenty five years, she was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for Fargo Funeral Home.
Violet is survived by her husband: Alfred Marzahl; four daughters: Joyce (Oliver) Kruse, Bette Marzahl, Nancy (George) Traucht, and Carol Moyer ; a son: Thomas (Lori) Marzahl; eleven loving grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two sisters: Betty (LeRoy) Priebe and Gladys Bergelin, as well many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, a grandson, a brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law.
The Christian Funeral for Violet will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at TRINITY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 804 Grignon Street in Kaukauna, with Rev. Mark Luetzow and Rev. Karl Schultz presiding. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established to assist the Radio Broadcast Fund at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church.
