- Daniel Joseph Martini, 74, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 in Dallas, TX. Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Hoa Nguyen officiating and Deacon Roland Benoit assisting. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
A Christian Wake will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, October 9, at Lunn's Colonial Chapel.
Dan was born August 15, 1937 in Wichita Falls, TX to Louis A. and Victoria Brennies Martini. He was a 1955 graduate of Wichita Falls High School and attended Midwestern State University. Dan served as a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves for 6 years. On October 6, 1962, he married Gladys Ann Hrncirik at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls. They were married for 49 wonderful years to the day, passing on their wedding anniversary.
Dan gave unselfishly of his time and money to those in need. He had worked for the City of Wichita Falls in traffic engineering, for Taylor Foundry and retired from Siemens after 20 years of dedicated service. Six of those years at Siemens were in Raleigh, NC. Following his retirement, Dan and Gladys moved back to Wichita Falls, and Dan went to work for Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Dan was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a lifelong blood donor. In 1965, the Wichita Falls Times/Record News presented him with an award for unselfish service and the Red Cross Gallon Club, naming him a 2 gallon member. He continued to donate blood every 3 months until 1990. Dan was also a Boys and Girls Club Alumni. He loved to travel and has visited all 50 states and numerous foreign countries.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, and by 2 sisters, Betty Neimeyer and Mildred Belue.
Survivors include his wife Gladys Martini of Wichita Falls, daughter Sandra Ross and son-in-law Dwight Ross of Wichita Falls, son Michael Martini and daughter-in-law Rebecca of Mansfield, and grandchildren Maggie and Dwight Ross. He is also survived by siblings, Anton Litteken of Wichita Falls, Leo Martini and his wife Sue of Edgewood, Ray Martini and wife Sharon of Dallas, and Joyce Martini of Burleson, his aunt Gertie Simon of Wichita Falls, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Wichita Falls or to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery Association.
