- Mabel C. Wagner, age 85, of Appleton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, November 29, 2009. She was born in Seymour on November 29, 1924, daughter of the late John Edward and Hattie (Green) DeBruin. On May 1, 1948, Mabel was united in marriage to Lloyd Wagner. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1995. Mabel began her care-giving career at St. Elizabeth Hospital and then worked at Appleton Extended Care for 25 years as a CNA giving care and comfort to all with warmth and kindness. After retiring, she did volunteer work to help those in need.
Mabel is survived by her four children: Nancy (Andy) Gerl, Ken (Denise) Wagner, Linda (Steve) Wagner and George (Lorri) Wagner; eight grandchildren: James (Shelley) Wagner, Jarred Gerl, Bryan (Bridgette) Gerl, Andrea (Adam) Keller, Jim and Jenny Wagner, Jessica (Brian) Netzel and Brandon Wagner, and a great-grandchild, Hollie Netzel. She is further survived by two brothers, Orvell (RoseMarye) DeBruin and Ervin (Millie) DeBruin, and a sister, Lucille Werth. Mabel will be missed by many nieces and nephews as well.
Mabel was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd (Margaret) DeBruin; three brothers-in-law: George (Caroline) Wagner, Joe Dorn and Jerry Werth; two nephews: Harry and Joe DeBruin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church (410 W. Lawrence St., Appleton) with Fr. Larry Abler presiding. Burial will be held in Highland Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the hour of Mass on Thursday at the church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Karl Baum and Rennes Nursing Home for the care that was given to Mabel. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mabel's name.
