- Harvey J. Wittman, Kaukauna, age 89, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born on March 15, 1925 in Appleton, WI to the late Henry and Clara (Kauer) Wittman. Harvey graduated from Kaukauna High School, class of 1943 and is a member of the Alumni Association. Harvey served in the Navy from 1943-1946 during WWII. A special veteran brick in Harvey's name, was purchased by his son Robin, in memory of his service for our country, it is located at Kaukauna Veteran's Park, Kaukauna, WI.
Following the Navy, Harvey went on to Barber school and completed this in 1949. Harvey met Mary at the Nightingale in Kaukauna one evening while out dancing, they courted for a few months, with a short engagement to follow and were married on January 14, 1950. They were fortunate to celebrate 65 years of marriage this past week. Harvey was an avid fisherman and he loved to bird watch, chase squirrels from the bird feeder, along with traveling, camping, gardening and spending time with his loved ones. Harvey worked for Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. for 37 years.
Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary; his sons: Lee Wittman, Sheboygan, Robin Wittman, Kaukauna and Jay Wittman, Austin, TX; his grandchildren: Jocelyn (Robert) Aho and their children Cassandra and Wesley, Neenah, Brandon (Sara) Wittman and their children, Haylie and Reed, Kaukauna, Kristin Olson and her children, Sophia, Noah and Zara, Kaukauna. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends whom were all dear to him.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Elmer Wittman, a sister-in-law, Theresa Stumpf, grandmother, Theresa Hopfensperger Kauer, grandfather, Henry Kauer Sr., grandmother, Anna Micke Wittman, grandfather, Michael Wittman Sr., and a great-grandson, Owen Olson.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Harvey will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at St. Aloysius Church, 2401 Main Ave., Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends will be received at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Full Military Rites will take place immediately following the services at church.
