- Charles B. Phillips, age 71, of Appleton, passed away surrounded by his family at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, after complications following open heart surgery. Charlie was born in Appleton on November 14, 1944, to the late Alfred and Elvera (Beglinger) Phillips. He graduated at Appleton High School with the class of 63. Charlie worked as a warehouseman at S. C. Shannon Co. for many years. Prior to his years at S.C. Shannon, he worked at Krambo and Kroger Foods, and was produce manager at Sentry Foods in Appleton. In 2000, he was united in marriage to Sharon Volkman after a "very long courtship." Charlie enjoyed cleaning and yardwork. Every December his Christmas spirit took over and he loved spending that time of year with family and friends. He also loved bowling, fishing, golfing, talking about the weather, trips to the U.P. and out west, and spending time at Errington's Cottages on Star Lake.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Sharon, Appleton; two daughters: Sarah (Karl) Guenther, Berlin, Tammy Jo (Don) Forrest, Romeoville, IL; one step daughter Tami Lynn (Ricardo) Gonzalez, Neenah; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; three brothers: Richard (Mary) Phillips, Little Chute, Thomas (Sue) Phillips, Green Bay, and Henry Phillips, Darboy; and a brother-in-law, David Lee, Brookhaven, PA. He is further survived by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two step sons: Troy and David Volkman.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, March 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., with Father Brian Wideman officiating. Friends and relatives may visit on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, and at the Sacred Heart Room at church on Tuesday from 9 am until the time of service. A Parish Prayer Service will take place at 7 pm on Monday at the funeral chapel. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice in Charlie's name.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs at St. Elizabeth Hospital and St Paul Center for Rehab for the compassionate care shown to Charlie.
