- Charles (Chuck) Kalista, age 89, of Rolling Meadows, IL died peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence. He was born on March 22, 1928 in Kaukanna, WI to Charles J. and Mary C (Shuber) Kalista.
Chuck graduated from Kaukauna High School and then enlisted in the Army. He served our country in active duty for 2 years. After Chuck retuned home, he graduated and received his degree from the University of Wisconsin. On January 17, 1950 he married Joan M. Ferrige and had 2 daughters Leslie and Susan. During the years Chuck continued his service to our country by enlisting in the Air Force Reserve. He remained in the Reserve several years and worked up to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the time of his retirement. In 1997 he lost his beloved wife, Joan to cancer but later found a special friendship with Pat Giovannini (Pat Survives). During his retirement years Chuck continued to serve by volunteering and providing veterans with valuable military benefit information.
Chuck is survived by his 2 daughters Leslie A. (Bill) Gleason, Susan B. (Bill) Doherty, grandchildren, Christopher (Kristen) Snyder, Ryan (Mandy) Snyder, Kathryn Doherty, David Doherty, great grandchildren Noah, Eli, Bennett, sister-in-law: Dorothy (Gordon) VanHandel, nieces/nephews Clifford (Diane) VanHandel, Carol (Robert Smith) Sullivan, Grace Ryan, Jennifer Bargas and Jeff C. (Kay) Kalista. He is further survived by many great and great great nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife Joan Kalista, his parents Charles and Mary (nee Shuber) Kalista, a brother Clifford Kalista, his sisters Caroline (Major John) Sullivan, Mary Ann Kalista, son-in-law Robert D. Snyder, nephew Bradley Van Handel and Clifford Kalista Jr. and niece Mary Bob Wellborn. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 noon to time of services at 2:00 PM at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg, IL. Interment Saturday in Appleton Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated to the Alzheimer's Association, 8430 W.
