- JOSEPH LEHRER, alderman of the Fourth Ward, Kaukauna, and one of the successful self-made business men of that city, owning the oldest butcher shop in this vicinity and one of the finest in the State, was born June 3, 1864, in Bohemia. He received his educational training in the schools of his native country, and after coming to Appleton, in 1882, he learned the butcher trade, which he followed at various places, eventually locating in Kaukauna in 1884. Mr. Lehrer was very favorably impressed with this city, and after a trip to Idaho, in 1886 and 1887, he returned to Kaukauna, where in April 6, 1895, he opened an establishment of his own, and this is now the oldest in the city. It is fitted with all modern appliances and appurtenances, being one of the finest appointed shops of its kind in Wisconsin, and he caters to the most exclusive trade in Kaukauna, handling only the finest grades of meats, poultry and fish. On August 16, 1894, Mr. Lehrer was united in marriage with Margaret Zink, at Kaukauna, and they have had five children -- one daughter and four sons, namely: Regina, Morris, Joseph, Richard and Sylvester, Miss Regina being a pupil in the Kaukauna schools. Mr. Lehrer and his family are members of St. Mary's congregation of the Roman Catholic Church. He is a, member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Equitable Fraternal Union, and he has also been prominent in civic affairs, serving his city as alderman of the Fourth Ward at the present time. In addition to building up a large and successful business, Mr. Lehrer has erected a comfortable home in Kaukauna, and he is regarded as one of the city's substantial business men and public-spirited citizens. In the spring of 1908 Mr. Lehrer made a trip to his native land.

- JOSEPH LEHRER DIES AFTER YEAR'S ILLNESS - Kaukauna-- Joseph Legher, Sr., 65, prominent Kaukauna busines man for the past 36 years, died at 6:10 Wednesday evening at his home at 205 Dodge-st, after an illness of a year. He was born in Germany and came to Idaho when he was 18 years old. He had been a resident of Kaukauna for 40 years and most of that time operated a butcher shop on Dodge-st. He was a member of the Elks, the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name society of St. Mary church, Modern Woodmen of America. Equitable Fraternal Union the Butchers Union. Survivors are the widow, one daughter, mrs. Arthur Rock of Port Arthur, Canada; four sons, Maurice, Joseph, Jr., and Sylvester of Kaukauna and Richard of Santa Paula, Calif. Funeral services will be at 9 o'clock Monday morning at St. Mary church. Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery.

LEHRER FUNERAL IS HELS ON MONDAY
Services Are Conducted at St. Mary Church by Rev. C. Ripp
Kaukauna--Funeral services for Joseph Lehrer, Sr., 65, who died last Wednesday evening, were held at 9 o'clock Monday morning in St. Mary church. He had been ill for about a year. The Rev. C. Ripp was in charge of the ceremony and interment was in Holy Cross cemetery.
Mr. Lehrer was a prominent Kaukauna business man. He had operated a butcher shop on Dodge-st. for about 26 years. He was a former alderman and was a director and stockholder in the Farmers and Merchants bank. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks, Equitalble Fraternal union, Modern Woodmen of America, Holy Name society of St. Mary church and Butcher's association. Born in Germany in 1864, he came to this city when he was 18 and had lived here since.
Besides his widow he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Rock of Port Arthur, Canada; four sons, Richard Lehrer of Santa Paula, Cal., Sylvester, Maurice, and Joseph, Jr., of Kaukauna; and one sister, Mrs. Theresa Hittner, Germany. Pallbearers were Hugo Welfenbach, Frank Balgie, J. Schmidt, Charles Appleton, L. F. Nelson and J. Hartzheim. Other directors of the Farmer's and Merchants bank and members of the Butcher's association from Kaukauna and Appleton were honorary pall bearers.

to meet at 7:30 Friday evening to offer prayers for Joseph Lehrer, Sr.
The funeral will be held in St. Mary's church at 9 o'clock Monday morning
and the knights are asked to be present at the funeral.
