  Retired Union Grove Minister, Dr. F.N. Dexter, Dies in South Had Served Congregational Churches in Wisconsin 55 Years; Funeral Services to Be Held in Ashland Wednesday Afternoon Rev. Dr. Frank N. Dexter, aged 80. former pastor of the Union Grove Congregational church for 14 years until his retirement in July, 1933, died Saturday in Avon Park, Fla., following a long illness. Funeral services will be held in the Ashland Congregational church Wednesday at 2 p. m. with Rev. Spoolman. President Brownell and Dean Hitchcock of Northland college officiating. Survivors are his wife, two daughters. Emily of Decatur, Ga., and Mary of Union Grove: four, sons, Nathaniel of Lemont, III., Paul of Chicago, Frank of Me - nasha and Stephen of East Lansing, Mich.; one brother, Zenas, of West Aliis, and 14 grandchildren. Ordained in 1885, Dr. Dexter was born at South Ely, province of Quebec, in 1859, and came to Wisconsin in 1871. He was graduated from Chicago seminary, received his B. A. degree at Ripon and his D.D. degree at Northland college. He was ordained to the ministry at Schiocton. Wis., April 1, 1885, in the church that he, Eben Rexford and others organized, and fol- lowed the ministry continuously until he retired, after which he was recognized as pastor emeritus of the Union Grove church. Dr. Dexter organized Sunday schools and churches in many places in Wisconsin. Illinois and Indiana, and held pastorates in Shiocton. Ellington. Seymour, Maine, Clinton, Wis.; Hermosa, Leyden, and Morgan Park, Ill., Indianapolis, and Elroy and Union Grove, Wis. Conference Moderator. In 1833, Dr. Dexter and Emily Torrey Smith were married in Green Bay. His first wife died in 1929 and in December 1931, Dr. Dexter was married to Miss Ma- bel Mannington, who survives. For many years, the former Union Grove pastor was actively identified with the Wisconsin con- ference of the Congregational church, and was moderator in 1929. He also was the author of "A Hundred Years of Congregationalism in Wisconsin." Although he went to Florida for his health, Rev. Dexter maintained his connections with the state and district organizations, and retained his voting privileges in Union Grove.
