- Sal, age 70, of Appleton, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010. He was born August 27, 1939, in Appleton, son of the late Hilary and Aria (Hornke) Salentine. He married Katie Piette, May 23, 1964, sharing 46 years together. Sal was a graduate of Appleton High School class of "57". He was the owner and operator of Genal Racing Tires for many years. He was the former owner of the Badger Bar in downtown Appleton and also worked in construction for many years. He served in the Army, 82nd Airborne Div. He enjoyed many things in life, especially playing with his grandchildren and anything that had to do with racing or gambling at the casino. He always looked forward to being the camp cook at the Suring Deer Camp.
Sal is survived by his wife Katie, Appleton; two daughters and sons-in-law: Amy and Brad Buss, Appleton; Ashley and Poul Elverum, Maple Grove, MN; six grandchildren: Eli, Max and Abby Buss, Cooper, Lily and Emerson Elverum; four sisters and three brothers-in-Law: Noreen and Herald Sievert, Appleton; Judy and Bob Hietpas, Appleton; Mary and Larry Zwiers, Neenah; Helen Lison, Appleton; a sister-in-law: Bev Dagneau, Green Bay and a brother-in-law: Fred (Shirley) Piette, Appleton.
He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Salentine; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Alfred and Victorine Piette and a brother-in-law: Bill Dagneau.
The funeral service for Sal will be held 5 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2010, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dale Grubba officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Funeral Chapel on Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to express and special thank you to Becky, Jenny, Lea and Trina for special loving care they gave to Sal.
