- Joseph E. VanLinn, age 71, of Kaukauna, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Kaukauna on April 6, 1936, to the late Henry and Orvena (Jansen) VanLinn. He proudly served in the Army from 1956-58. Joseph married Patricia "Pat" Summers on November 22, 1958, at St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Kaukauna. He was employed at Thilmany Pulp and Paper and a member of the Quarter Century Club. Shortly after retirement, Joe drove cars for Gustman. He loved the job, and the special people with whom he worked.
Joseph was a member of St. Aloysius Parish. He was a sports enthusiast who belonged to the Kaukauna Quarter Back Club and was a member of the Kaukauna High School Hall of Fame. As a proud grandfather, Joe especially loved attending Andrea's basketball games in Chippewa Falls, coaching Alec's baseball team, and cherishing his fishing trips to Canada with Sam. Kaitlyn will always be his "Snicklefriz." Joe was an avid golfer. He enjoyed the company of his buddies as well as the game.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia; his daughters: Karen (Steve) Idso, Chippewa Falls and Jenny (Dann) Pynenberg, Little Chute; seven grandchildren: Erik and Andrea Larson, Alec, Sam and Kaitlyn Pynenberg, Stephanie (Jeff) Kohnen and Sunny (Doug) Custer; brothers: Rick (Marcella) and Jim VanLinn; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Maryann VandeYacht, Dolores (Bob) Besaw, Phyllis (Pat) Stumpf, Pauline (Maynard) Krueger, Tom (Bonnie) Summers and Judy (Robert) Wurdinger. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Jake (Bea) VanLinn; his father and mother-in-law, Walter and Esther Summers; and a brother-in-law, Roy VandeYacht.
The Funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at St. Aloysius Parish (2401 Main Ave., Kaukauna). Visitation will start at 2 p.m. until the time of Mass Wednesday directly at church. Committal at St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
