- Verona J. Verhyen, 87, Appleton, died Saturday April 16, 2011, at Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 22, 1923, a daughter of the late Neil and Mary (Burton) Brown. Verona married Joseph Verhyen on January 3, 1944.
Verona was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. She was a life member of the ladies auxiliary of VFW Post #2778. Verona was an avid Packer fan and she enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends.
Verona is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph; four children, Dennis (Phyllis) Verhyen, Greenleaf; Vickie Eberhard, Appleton; Tim (Jackie) Verhyen, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and Lisa Volkman, Grand Chute; nine grandchildren, Tina Laura, Sara (Jim), Joe (Deb), Daniel (Lindsey), Jonathan (friend, Mary), Amie (Keith), Shelby and Will; 11 great-grandchildren and one more due in October; three brothers, Lee (Ruth) Brown, Phoenix, Ariz.; Bill Brown, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Carl (Toni) Brown, Little Chute; one sister, Eleanor Sonnleitner, Appleton; and two sisters-in-law, Frances Ronk and Mildred Verhyen;
She was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard; a sister, Ferol; sister-in-law, Florence Jacques; three brothers-in-law, Bill Jacques, Peter Verhyen and Mike Niesen.
The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street, with Fr. Jim Leary, OFM. CAP. officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
