- See image Old Buchanan Settler Is Dead - John Rohan, Aged 86 Years, Passed Away Saturday, Funeral TuesdayJohn Rohan of the Town of Buchanan passed away at his home on Saturday. T he deceased came to Buchanan in the early 1850's and was a well known a nd pominent farmer of that town, where he lived over fifty years. He was n early 86 years of age, having been born in the county Clare, Ireland in Ju ne 1825. Mr. Rohan leaves a wife, two sons and four daughters. The sons a re Patrick Rohan and Assemblyman William Rohan of Buchanan; the daughte rs are: Mrs. Barney Keelan, Mrs. Martin O'Connon, Mrs. Patrick Keehan, Mr s. John Powers. The funeral will be from St. Francis church, Hollandto wn at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning.
1911 Kaukauna Sun dated 3/30/1911; Pioneer Resident At RestJohn Rohan who has been a resident of Kaukauna and Buchanan since 1854, di ed at his home near the city limits on Saturday at 2:30 P.M. after a serio us illness of but a few days, although he has been in failing health sin ce last fall. The deceased was nearly 86 years of age; he was born in Coun ty Clare, Ireland June 1825, and had lived on the homestead where he di ed since 1856. He was married in Cleveland Ohio in 1854 to Miss Catheri ne Holland who survives him and they settled in 1856 on the homestead. M r. Rohan was a well known and prominent farmer. He leaves a wife and six c hildren, two sons and four daughters, namely, Patrick E. Rohan who resid es on the homestead with his parents, Assemblyman William Rohan of the to wn of Buchanan, Mrs. Barney Keelan of Antigo, Mrs. Patrick Kehan of Fo nd du Lac, Mrs. Martin Conner of Reedsville, Mrs. John Powers of Buchana n. Mr. Rohan has made many friends during his long residence here who symp athize with the bereaved family in their loss. Funeral services were he ld Tuesday from St. Francis Catholic churchand internment made in the pari sh cemetery. Pallbearers, Daniel Glasheen, Martin VandeYacht, William Camp bell, Michael Moloney, Albert Tillman and Daniel Ryan. Mr. Rohan was o ne of the pioneer merchants of this city having conducted a grocery sto re on Depot St., near where the residence of Miss Hunt now stands, wh en he first settled here, before moving to the farm. Among those who wi th relatives from outside the city attended the services were Miss Jenn ie Cox of Lena, Mrs James Anglan of Oshkosh, and messrs William and Thom as O'Malley of Milwaukee, Mrs J. Keehan of Kelnersville, Mr & Mrs Jos. Lin are, Mrs P. Fox, Mr & Mrs M.H. O'Niel, Mrs Martin O'Niel and son John of M aple Grove.
