- Sybil M. Secrest, 66, of Farmington, passed from this life to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at home with her loving husband, Clyde Secrest, after a brave battle of illnesses. She was from Plainview, Texas, the daughter of B.Y. and Mary Newman.
She then moved to Brush, Colo., where she met her first husband of 16 years, Harold "Red" Herman, and where they had their three children. They moved to Fort Wingate for awhile in 1969, and from there to other parts of New Mexico, Amarillo, Texas, and the family then reunited in the tri-city area in 1975.
Sybil was married to her second husband of 21 years, Clyde Secrest, in August 1985, with her son, Todd, at her side to "give her away." She retired from the city of Farmington after working there for 22 1/2 years, mostly in Code Compliance.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Clyde Newman of Kearny, Ariz.; her beloved Uncle Paul and Aunt Margie of Floydada, Texas; along with many others on the Newman, Herman and Secrest sides.
She is survived by her children, Susan Williams, Sherri Clark and Todd Herman; stepchildren, Michael Secrest, Kathy Thorpe and Danny Secrest, all from Farmington; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Sybil will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 29, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Chapel, with Jack Wheat officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington.
