- Sgt. Erwin Verhagen, West Seventh Street, has received an honorable discharge from the Army. He has a total of 106 points and served in the Army since August 1941. He spent three years in the South Pacific area. Verhagen was wounded in the Philippines returned to the states in January after he recovered from his wounds.

- Ervin J. Verhagen, Kaukauna Age 80, died on Thursday, September 28, 2000 at his home. He was bo rn on March 9, 1920, in New London, the son of the late Louis and Catheri ne (Bergman) Verhagen. Ervin served his country in the South Pacific duri ng World War II while enlisted in the US Army and received four battle sta rs and a purple heart. Ervin enjoyed woodworking and building replica shi ps out of toothpicks. He later married the former Dorothy Van Zeeland on January 20, 1945, she preceded h im in death in 1997. He was employed at Thilmany Pulp and Paper for 36 yea rs until his retirement in 1982. Ervin was a member of Holy Cross Cathol ic Church and the Thilmany Paper Quarter Century Club.He is survived by six daughters and six son-in-laws: Sandra (Chuck) Jacob i, Fort Meyers, Florida; Mary (Len) Hawley, Orlando, Florida; Barb (Leo) S chuh; Joyce (Ray) Schuh; Judy (Al) Zierler, all of Little Chute; Colleen ( Tom) Geske, Kaukauna; three sons and three daughter-in-laws: Keith (Lynn ), Combined Locks; Mark (Cindy) and Bruce (Julie), both of Little Chut e; 23 grandchildren: Brian (Maria), Rob (Fiancee Carrie) and Dave (Nika) Hawley, Amy (Gerry) Weyenberg, V al (Cole) Ziegelbauer, Todd (Fiancee Amy) Verhagen, Brad (Michelle), Scot t, Matt Hawley, Bill, Tonya, Jody Schuh, Rick and Pat Schuh, David and Do ug Verhagen, Mike and Ben Verhagen, Michelle, Kathy and Kelly Zierler, Chr isty and Chad Geske; three step grandchildren: Gary (Andrea) Jacobi; Gr eg Jacobi, Guy (Shannon) Jacobi; eight great grandchildren: Sarah and Matthew Hawley, Gary Lober meier, Kendra and Ryan Weyenberg, Alexi Verhagen, Caitlyn Ziegelbauer a nd Elizabeth Hawley; four step great grandchildren: Jason, Erin, Joshua a nd Noah Jacobi. Ervin is further survived by a brother: Eugene (Rita) Verh agen, Kaukauna; two brother-in-laws: Robert (Jan) Van Zeeland and Marv (Ro se) Schumacher; two sister-in-laws: Eunice Reider and Delores (Marv) Vandenberg. He was pre ceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; a son: David; three brothers: Melvi n, Steven and Jerome (Kathy) Verhagen; four sisters: Lucina Verhagen, Regi na (Wally) Swanningson, Rosemary Kramer and Johanna (Clarence) Fink; thr ee sister-in-laws: Ardell and Margaret Ann VanZeeland and Betsy Schumache r; and two brother-in-laws: Gene (Ann) VanZeeland and Thomas Reider. The funeral liturgy wi ll be at 12PM on Saturday, September 30, 2000, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHUR CH, the Rev. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in the parish c emetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 10:00a. m. until the time of Mass.
