- Frances (Franny) Kilgas, 79, Kaukauna, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at home surrounded by her family. She was born Apr. 2, 1932, in Milwaukee, to the late Jack and Florence (Zietler) Huss, and lived in Suring, Wis. until her family moved to Kaukauna in 1944. Franny was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She met her future husband while in high school, and after a five year courtship she married David Kilgas on Jun. 20, 1953. Franny adored her grandchildren and always encouraged them in their professions, athletics, and academics. Her contribution to the community over her life has been enormous. One of her greatest joys was working with Hospice.
Franny became the quintessential hospice volunteer, receiving a certificate of honor as Hospice Organization and Palliative Experts (HOPE) Volunteer of the year in 2009 and the Rotary Paul Harris Fellow Honoree in 2010. She became a very special friend to everyone she touched at Cherry Meadows and was the personification of the word compassion.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, David; her three sons: Michael (Lila) Timothy (Barb), and Gregory (Karen); one daughter, Sarah; nine grandchildren: Stacie, Nicole, Steven, Michael, Taylor, Paul, Dianne, Adam, and Kevin; her sisters: Barbara Mischler, Sr. Helen Huss, Mary (Paul) Schuh, and Ginny (Bob) Recla.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 119 W. 7th St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Willard Van De Loo officiating. Friends will be received on Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at which time a Parish Prayer Service will conclude the evening. Friends may call again on Tuesday directly at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Franny will be greatly missed by her family and countless friends. They will remember her for her boundless energy and enthusiasm.
