- David J. Zehner, Dale, 80, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein.
David was born on Feb. 27, 1924, in Dale, son of the late David and Louise (Ellenbecker) Zehner.
On Oct. 22, 1949, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Friemark. She preceded him in death in 1992.
David worked for Soo Line Railroad for 34 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Hortonville Knights of Columbus and served as financial secretary. David was the Dale town clerk for 14 years and treasurer for six years and also was a member of the Dale Community club for 20 years. He was a very active member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville and served as a trustee.
David's enjoyments were spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing cards and researching the history of Dale.
He is survived by two daughters, Marcia (Larry) Lehew, Calgary Alberta, Canada, and Joann (Stuart) Dewhurst, New Holstein; six sons, Dan Zehner, Dale, Chuck (Deb) Zehner, Dale, Don (Cathy) Zehner, Greenville, Paul (Carol) Zehner, Dale, Jim (Sara) Zehner, Dale, and Steve (Lesa) Zehner, Oshkosh. Two sisters, Betty (Al) Friemark, Dale, and Lois Zehner, Madison; two sister in-laws, Anita (Clarence) Bungert, Appleton, and Betty Friemark, Waukesha; twenty four grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive David.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for David will be held on Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at 4:30 PM at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville with Fr. Paul Vanden Hogen officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Dale.
