- W. Ben Verhagen St. Paul Ho me KaukaunaAge 91, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. B en was born in Freedom on May 31, 1909, son of the late Henry and Wilhelmi na (Weyers) Verhagen. Ben was employed for nearly 50 years by Thilmany Pu lp and Paper in Kaukauna and for most of that time also operated a dairy f arm in the Town of Kaukauna. Ben was a member of the Knights of Columbu s, Thilmany Management and Quarter-Century Club, the AARP where he once se rved as local president, and the Holy Name Society. Ben was a longtime a nd faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he served on the s chool board and was a eucharistic minister. Many will also remember Ben f or the many years he volunteered for the county Social Services Departmen t. He is survived by his wife, Marge Verhagen, Kaukauna; two daughters; Ma ry (John) O'Neill, League City, Texas; Margaret Guilfoyle, Appleton; fi ve sons: Ben "Bud" (Nancy) Verhagen, Ballwin, Missouri; Jack (Loraine) Ver hagen, Estero, Florida; Don (Kitty) Verhagen, Kaukauna; Bob (Marcia) Verha gen, Boca Raton, Florida; Dick (Karen) Verhagen, Madison; 19 grandchildre n; 39 great-grandchildren; five brothers: Richard (Monnie) Verhagen, Kauka una; Ves (Min) Verhagen, Kimberly; Fr. Norbert Verhagen, M.M., San Francis co; Fr. Donald Verhagen, S.D.S., Manitowoc; Raymond Verhagen, Appleton; t wo sisters: Agatha Nussbaum, Kaukauna; Millie (Ervin) DeBruin, Kimberly; a nd a sister-in-law, Gladys Verhagen, Kaukauna. He was preceded in dea th by his parents, sister, Ceil (Norb) Meulemans and Martha (Ignatius) Sch uh, brothers: Ed (Rose) Verhagen, Lloyd (Doris) Verhagen, Larry Verhage n, and an infant brother, Francis Verhagen, and brother-in-law, Ray Nussba um. The funeral liturgy will be 5 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001 at HOLY CRO SS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullark ey officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may ca ll directly at the church on Friday from 2 p.m. until the hour of the litu rgy. A memorial fund in Ben's name has been established.The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire sta ff of St. Paul Elder Services.
