- Anna Rae Vanden Boom, age 90, of Stockbridge, died on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Good Shepherd Nursing Facility in Seymour.
She was born November 1, 1922 in Alabama, daughter of the late James N. & Norma A. (Lorenz) Turner. She married Charles E. Vanden Boom on July 20, 1946 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge.
Following her graduation from Chilton High School and shortly after being married, Anna worked at the Chilton City Clerk office. Later in life, she worked at Chilton Metal Products until her retirement at the age of 65.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Christian Women, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Anna liked to be outdoors tending to her flowers or caring for the large garden she used to keep every year. She looked forward to getting time out with friends or family by going shopping or going out to eat, however, home was always where Anna's heart was. One of her favorite phrases was 'Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jig'.
Anna truly treasured everyone in her family. Although she frequently said, "You wanted all these kids, Charley", her heart and her home were always open to those she loved. She especially enjoyed sturgeon fishing with her family and visits from her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Mary (Melvin) Ecker, Charles (Jane) Vanden Boom, Jr., David (Penny) Vanden Boom, Steven (Lori) Vanden Boom, Robert Vanden Boom, Kay Van Rossum, Julie (Michael) Jehle, Brian (Paula) Piper; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister: Verna Schneider and a sister-in-law: Arlene Turner. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter: Ann Beth (Vanden Boom) Piper; step-father, William Oakley; 3 brothers: Harold Turner, William (Grace) Oakley, Jr., & Frederick Oakley; a sister: Margaret Winkle and infant sister Mary Anita; and a brother-in-law: William J. Schneider.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 and on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 am until 10:45 am. A Parish Vigil Service will be held Tuesday evening at the funeral home beginning at 7:00 pm.
Anna's family would like to thank the staff of Good Shepherd Nursing Facility and the Heartland Hospice Nurses and staff for all of the loving and kind care shown to Anna.
