- George J. Stevens, age 88, of Land O' Lakes, WI, formerly of Neenah, WI, died on June 7, 2013, at Friendly Village in Rhinelander, WI.
He was born on May 23, 1925, in Clintonville, Waupaca County, WI, the son of George Albert and Lillian Rebecca (Nass) Stevens.
He was united in marriage to Myrene Nila Knapp on December 27, 1952, in Clintonville, WI. On October 27, 2011, the love of his life, went to her eternal rest.
George was employed with Bergstrom Paper Company, of Neenah, WI until his retirement when they moved to their lake home in Land O' Lakes, WI which they had spent many years building.
George was an active member in Hope Lutheran Church and a Life Member of the VFW Post 8400 in Land O' Lakes, WI. He was very instrumental in the construction of the VFW building where he held many offices from Post Commander to District 10 Commander from 1998-2005. He was very proud of his time he served in the U.S. Marine Corp and shared many stories with family and friends.
George also had a deep love for his hunting in the north woods. Many years were spent in preparing the camp and making the meals for all those who joined him during the hunting season. He also was an avid Packer fan.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn (Chuck) Horn, Watersmeet, MI, sisters: JoAnn Popanda, Sussex, WI and Judy Klingbeil, Appleton, WI; sister-in-laws: Janice (Roger) Miller and Lorna (Ron) Piette of Neenah, WI; grandchildren: Steven (Cory) Horn of Sobieski, WI and Nichole (Kenny) Ansel of De Pere, WI: great-grandchildren: Blayd, Kiana, Garret, Zander and Payton and many nieces and nephews. A special niece, Diane Miller, of Three Lakes who was like another daughter in all the love, time and care that she showed her Uncle George.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrene, his brothers: DeWayne and Waldon, his sisters: Delores Lyon and Gladys Hacus, and nephews Dean Piette, J. Steven Hacus, Richard Dusel, and Raymond Dusel Jr.
Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home will be assisting the family. A family memorial will be held at a later date.
