Family History- From Family Binder given in trust to Nathan Ronning from Roger Ronning 2007
When a young man, Godfrey Bomier, came to the United States from Three Rivers, Canada, where he was born. Looking for a place to locate, he went down the Fox River in WI on the way to Chicago, which at that time was a very sparsely settled district and in a very swampy country, continuing on down the Mississippi River to New Orleans, LA. He decided to return to WI at Lake Superior where he married Elizabeth Gray Turner. Then later moved on to Green Bay, WI. He bought a farm with a ten-room house, a saw mill and a grist mill there. By this time there were a number of children. He built a school house on the farm and gave an 89 year lease to Green Bay. One of the large city schools is on this site now. Later when Alexander Turner was 11 years old, his father sold the farm in Green Bay, and bought one adjoining DePere. He was a contractor and a builder most of his life.
The following is compiled from Josephine Bomier Munson's letter:
Her grandmother left France when 12 years old; they fled to England, from there to Canada where Godfre Bomier, Sr. was born. Her grandfather had to leave France also at the time of insurrection. Godfrey at the age of 19 left Canada and went to Baton Rouge, LA. THere a wealthy plantation owner adopted him. He later came to Wisconsin. Relatives still live in Three Rivers, Canada. He spoke of a sister, Victoria.
