  Carleton W. Babb, Colonel MIARNG, Ret. Grand Ledge Carleton W. Babb, age 90, born September 12, 1921 in Appleton, WI, passed away November 1, 2011 surrounded by his loving family in Lansing, MI. Carleton served in the U.S. Army Artillery during WWII participating in the invasion of the Philippine Liberation and Asiatic Pacific (Leyte, Mindanao, Luzon Islands) Theaters. He proudly served his country for 39 years, and retired in 1976 as a Colonel from the Michigan Army National Guard. He was inducted into the Fort Sill Hall of Fame; awarded four battle stars in combat; and earned the Distinguished Service Medal. He was a life member of the Sojourners and the Grand Ledge Masonic Lodge #179, a member of the Grand Ledge American Legion, the V.F.W. in Gwinn, MI, and active member of the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church. He loved the game of golf and spending summers at the cottage on the lake in Gwinn, MI. Carleton is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Betty, and their children: Christine Ingalls of Grand Ledge, MI, Carleton S. (Linda) of Casper, WY, Curtis (Paula) of Menomonee Falls, WI, Craig (Corine) Babb of Boyne City, MI and Casey (Sue) of Lansing, MI; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Willis M. Babb of Appleton, WI. He is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Lora (Smolk) Babb; siste,r Jean H. Crane; brother, Orville H. Babb; grandson, Marty; and son-in-law, James Ingalls. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 7, 2011 - 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 411 Harrison St., Grand Ledge with Rev. Molly Turner officiating. Military Graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be given to the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund (F.U.M.C.) or the Salvation Army in memory of Carleton Babb.
