- Wolfmeyer, Esther Irma Gast
On November 20, 2008, Esther, at the age of 90, lost her ten-year battle against Alzheimer's disease. With one hand she took that of her Lord and Savior, and with the other she took the hand of the love of her life, her husband, Lloyd, who had passed away April 4, 1986. She then took her walk from her Earthly tent and entered her Heavenly home. What a welcome she received! Greeting her were her father, Paul and her mother, Delia Gast; her brother, Gilbert and his wife Celia Gast; a niece, Peggy (wife of Lloyd) Ruh; her in-laws, Leland and Viola Wolfmeyer; a sister-in-law and her husband, Lois and Orv Stern; and many more including several special friends.
Those left behind are her son, John and his wife, Loni Wolfmeyer; their son, Kurt and his wife, Cretia Wolfmeyer; and Kurt's daughter Atina, all of Mooresville, NC; her daughter, Judy (Dennis) Ott of Brillion, WI; their son, Dan and his wife, Kathie of Broken Arrow, OK; and Dan's son, Tyler of Jenks, OK; another son, Keith and his wife, Pam, and their children, Nathan and Christie of Plymouth, WI; and two daughters: Lynda and Kris, both of Brillion, WI. She also leaves a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Carol Wolfmeyer of Wild Rose, WI; many nieces and nephews; special friends: Dr. David Johnson, DDS, and his wife, Paula, of Reedsville and their family; and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Harms of Brillion; and many members of Central United Methodist Church of Mooresville, NC.
Esther was born at home on a farm near Kiel, WI, on September 7, 1918. She lived there until her family moved to Kiel, WI. She attended Kiel High School and graduated salutatorian of her class in 1935. She participated in forensics and drama clubs, loving to perform. After moving to Brillion, WI, for her job, she met the love of her life, Lloyd Wolfmeyer. They married on Christmas Day, 1941, and she lived in Brillion for the rest of her life. She was a correspondent for four newspapers before joining the Brillion Iron Works Farm Equipment Sales Department.
Esther had many interests including a love for reading, sewing and cross stitching, and traveling. She had a talent for music and played piano and organ at several local churches, accompanied students for competitions, and sang soprano in the choir. She taught child and adult Sunday school classes and Bible school. She enjoyed genealogy and completed the challenge of tracing her family's heritage to complete her book, A Pocket Full of Wry. She participated in Sheepshead, Cribbage, and Bridge clubs. She was a past member of the United Methodist Women and the Brillion Women's Club. She was an active member and held all stations in the Order of the Eastern Star (OES).
Visitation will be at Faith United Methodist Church in Brillion, WI, on Sunday, November 23, 2008, starting at 1 p.m. with a brief OES service and followed by a celebration of her life at 3 p.m. Memorials are being established in Esther's name for Faith United Methodist Church and for the Alzheimer's Association. The family requests donations to these causes in lieu of flowers. The Wieting Funeral Home of Brillion is assisting the family with arrangements.
