  Melchert, Ruby M. (Mrs. Carl Melchert) Ruby M. Melchert, age 83, of Appleton, was called home to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 28, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services. Ruby was born May 31, 1924, in Kaukauna, the daughter of the late Duett and Agnes (Peterson) Johnson. On July 3, 1948, she was united in marriage to Carl J. Melchert, sharing 57 years together before his death on Jan. 5, 2006. Ruby was a beautician in Appleton for many years. She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Mount Olive Ladies Aid, a member and past president of VFW Auxiliary #2778 of Appleton and a member of Willow Hill Homemakers. Ruby will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always put the needs of other's before herself. She loved fishing, camping, gardening, and best of all, just spending time with her family. Survivors include three children: Carla (Ralph) Von Fossen, Tallahassee, FL; Steven (Donna) Melchert, Appleton; Lynn (Michael) Evers, Appleton; six grandchildren: Erik, Nick, and Scott Melchert, and Krista, Michelle, and Ryan Evers; a brother, Clifford (Shirley) Johnson, Kaukauna; and sisters-in-law: Jane Johnson, Kaukauna; Bernice Thyssen, Appleton: also nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by two brothers: Donald and Allan Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 930 E. Florida Ave., Appleton, with Rev. Robert Raasch officiating. Relatives and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel and then directly at the church, from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. A memorial fund has been established. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the nurses and staff of ManorCare Health Services, and Heartland Hospice for their kindness and care, and also to Ruby's extended family and friends at ManorCare for all the good times playing volleyball and cards.
