- Shirley A. Osterberg, Neenah, age 63, passed away from Colon Cancer on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Colony Oaks Care Center in Appleton, following a 40-year battle with Lupus. She was born January 10, 1944, in New London, daughter of the late Harold and Mathilda (Wetzel) Zempel. Shirley married Terry Osterberg on July 6, 1963 in Appleton. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1999. Shirley enjoyed reading, watching TV spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Appleton.
Survivors include her sister, Beverly (DuWayne) Nieland, Appleton; a nephew, Jeffrey (Julie) Nieland and their daughter, Crystal Nieland, Newark, Il, a niece, Connie Nieland and her children: Jessica Boettcher and Chad (Melissa) Boettcher; a stepbrother, Les (Sharon) Kloss, Jefferson, WI, a stepsister, Diane (Michael) Schepp, Madison; three aunts: Shirley's Godmother, Edna Wetzel, Bertha Mork, Opal (Ken) Glass; and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Zempel, mother, Mathilda Zempel Kloss, a brother, Lloyd, mother and father-in-law, Harold and Vera Osterberg, a nephew, Michael Nieland, her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 25, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 900 N. Mason Street, Appleton, with The Rev. Judy Deckert officiating. Visitation will be on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Floral Hill Cemetery in New London. A memorial is being established in her name.
The family would like to thank her doctors, the staff of Theda Clark Medical Center, and Colony Oaks Care Center, Appleton, for all their wonderful care.
