- Elaine Margaret Mary Volkmann passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2009, after losing a brief battle with cancer. She was born on July 25, 1924, and raised on the family farm outside of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, the youngest of 10 children of William and Mary Rohan. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an X-ray Technician. On August 1, 1953, Elaine married Robert Carl Volkmann and they soon settled in Neenah, Wisconsin, where they raised their family of five sons and were active in the local community. She was employed by Kimberly-Clark Corporation in the Executive Health Center.
Upon retirement, they moved to Penn Valley, California, to be closer to family, and ultimately relocated to Grand Junction, Colorado, where she enjoyed the last ten years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her eight brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; sons: Tim (Peggy), Santa Cruz, California; Thomas (Susan) and Andrew (Janine) of Grand Junction, Colorado; John (Denise), Austin, Texas; and Eric (Sheila), Madison, Wisconsin; 12 grand-children: Katie, Matthew, Ryan, Tyler, Lauren, Peter, Danielle, Megan, Rachel, Ben, Rohan, and Caitlin.
Funeral services will include a rosary on Thursday, February 19, at 7 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary followed by a mass at 10 a.m. Friday, February 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Junction. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the LiveStrong Foundation.
