- EDWARD JANSEN, who for more than forty years has been closely identified w ith the agricultural interests of Outagamie county, is the owner of a fi ne farm of eighty acres situated in section 26, Buchanan township. He w as born October 11, 1832, in Holland, and is a son of Jacob and Christi na Jansen, who came to America about 1853, settling near the village of Li ttle Chute, Outagamie county, where they purchased forty acres of land. Ja cob Jansen built a log house in the woods, for which he and his sons cut t he trees and hewed the logs, and on this property the father died in 187 1, aged seventy-one years, having increased his holdings to sixty acres.
The death of his widow occurred in 1898, when she had reached the advanc ed age of eighty-eight years, and both were buried in the Little Chute Cem etery. Edward Jansen was the second of a family of twelve children, and re mained with his father until the age of twenty-five years, after whi ch he spent about fifteen years in workingfor wages. At the end of this pe riod he purchased his present tract from Henry Hewett, for whom he had wor ked about ten years, and he has continued to reside on this land ever sinc e, a matter of upwards of forty years. He was married in 1855 to Miss A nn Dunn, who was born January 1, 1834, the next to the oldest of the fi ve children of John and Catherine Dunn, natives of Ireland, who, about fo ur years after their marriage in Canada, came to America and settled in Ve rmont. They resided there until 1854, in which year they came to Wisconsi n, buying land in Clayton township, WinInebago county, and resided there u ntil Mrs. Dunn's death, December 12, 1859, at the age of eighty-two year s, at which time her husband came to.live with Mr. and Mrs. Jansen, at who se home he died in 1864, aged eighty-one years. Both were buried in the Li ttle Chute Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Jansen have had five children: Edward, t he eldest, of Deer Creek township, is married and has four children; Cathe rine, married Thomas Clune of Buchanan township and has three children; Em ma, married John Doyle of Vandenbroek township; William of New Londo n, is married and has seven children; and John, residing on the homeste ad with his father, is married and has one child. Mr. Jansen has sixtyfi ve acres under cultivation, all fenced with barbed wire, and he carri es on general farming and markets dairy products, hogs, cattle and some gr ain and hay. He is a democrat in his political views and he and his fami ly are connected with the Catholic Church of Kimberly.
