- Steffens Sr., William J. Kaukauna Age 79 died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 2, 2002. Funeral services wi ll be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Kaukauna, wi th military rites by the William Verhagen Post 60 of the American Legion i mmediately following services. Friends may call at the Boettcher Family Fu neral Home, Kaukauna from 4-8 p.m. Friday and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday dir ectly at the church until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memo rial fund has been established in his name. A complete obituary will appe ar in Thursday's paper.
Steffens, Sr., William J. KaukaunaAge 79, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at the Appleton Medical Ce nter. He was born December 18, 1922 in Kaukauna son of the late Joseph a nd Minnie (Ebben) Steffens. On September 27, 1947 Bill married the form er Margaret Gruetzmacher at St. Margaret-Mary Catholic Church in Neenah. T he couple lived in Kaukauna their entire married lives. Bill worked at Gid dings and Lewis in his earlier years and retired from Thilmany Pulp and Pa per after 30 years of service. Bill enjoyed woodworking, camping and spend ing time at his trailer. He taught 1st Aid for the Red Cross to many firem en and teachers in the area. Bill was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Ch urch, where he was a Communion Distributor and was also a Scoutmaster a nd had served as a Commissioner for the District. Bill was also a memb er of the Knights of Columbus and the Thilmany Quarter Century Club. Survi vors include his wife, Margaret, Kaukauna; five sons and daughters-in-la w: Robert (Margaret) Steffens, Menasha; Bill Jr. (Joanne) Steffens, Neena h; Dennis (Julie) Steffens, Menasha; Dan (Laurie) Steffens, Wild Rose; Bri an (Kris) Steffens, Manitowoc; nine grandchildren, two brothers and six si sters-in-law: George (Gina) Steffens, Melvin (Beverly) Steffens, Jean Stef fens, Nancy Steffens-Shimek, Michaeline Steffens, Leona Steffens; three si sters and two brothers-in-law: Florence (George) Bodde, Genevive (Harol d) Fredrickson, Lorraine Corby, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preced ed in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law: Sr. Jane Frances Steffen s, Sr. Leonare Steffens, Robert Corby and Lloyd Shimek; five brothers a nd a sister-in-law: Vincent, Richard, Francis, Peter (Dorothy) and Nichola s. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic C hurch, Kaukauna with Fr. David Schmidt officiating. Military rites by t he William Verhagen Post 60 of the American Legion will immediate follow s ervices. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna. Friends may ca ll at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna fr om 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday directly at the chur ch until the time of services. There will be a parish prayer servi ce at 7 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been establis hed in his name.
