- Steffens, Edward A.Edward A. Steffens, age 82, of Santa Barbara, CA died July 16, 2004 at ho me after a heroic battle with a blood disease. He was born January 26, 19 22 in Freedom, the son of the late Lawrence A. and Dora Steffens of Applet on. Ed graduated from Appleton High School in 1939. He served his count ry in the U.S. Army in World War II, serving under General Patton. After s ervice he attended school in Milwaukee and joined Delco Electronics in 19 59 where he meet his wife, Marian. They were transferred to Santa Barbar a, CA in 1972, and retired in 1984. Ed enjoyed traveling, golfing, playi ng cards with friends, and working on home projects.Survivors include his wife of thirty-three years, Marian, two sons: Gar y, Minneapolis, MN and James, Milwaukee; two grandchildren, three sister s: Ceil Smith, Little Chute; Marge (Don) Baer and Mary (Don) Keller, bo th of Appleton; three brothers: Lawrence (Cleo) Steffens, Kelly Lake, Euge ne (Connie) Steffens, Oshkosh, and Kenneth (Mary) Steffens, Mackville; a nd sister-in-law Betty Steffens, Appleton.He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Charles and Floria n, and brother-in-law Don Keller.A Memorial Service will be held at St. Thomas More Church, 1810 N. McDona ld Street, Appleton, on August 7 at the 5 p.m. mass. In lieu of flowers, d onations may be made in Ed's name to the Oncology Dept. of Cottage Hospit al in Santa Barbara, CA. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery, Santa Barbar a, CA.
