- Van Abel, Donald M., Hollandto wnAge 81, died peacefully Thursday, April 3, 2003 at Appleton Medical Cente r. Donald was born July 26, 1922 to the late William and Nell (Curtin) V an Abel in Hollandtown. On June 28, 1945 he married the former Bernice Hop fensperger and together they resided in Hollandtown their entire married l ives. On March 27, 1993, she preceded him in death. Don and Bernice, alo ng with Will and Duff, owned and operated Van Abel's Supper Club. His grea test enjoyment came from visiting with employees, customers and longtime f riends at the restaurant. Don was a member of St. Francis Catholic Churc h, Hollandtown where he sang in the Men's Choir, a member of the Fox Vall ey Golf Course, the Knights of Columbus and was a founding member of the H ollandtown Fire Dept.Survivors include four daughters and a son-in-law: Pat and Charlie Lindber g, Sherwood and his children, Sue Van Abel, Katie Coenen both of Hollandto wn and Joan Van Abel of Kaukauna; three grandchildren: Chris, Ann and L ee Coenen; special nephews and niece; Tim, Mike, John, Jerry, Pat and Ja ne (Marx), who worked by his side as they grew up; two sister-in-laws: Du ff Van Abel of Hollandtown and Julie and Marv Hooyman, Arizona; a sister a nd brother-in-law, Marianne and Ralph Griesbach of Sterling, Illinois. D on is further survived by his wife's family; Bea Hopfensperger, Kaukaun a, Bud Garvey, Freedom, Don and Ginger Stuyvenberg, Kimberly and Connie Ho pfensperger, Gillett. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephew s, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, B ernice; a son-in-law, Earl Coenen, three brothers and a sister-in-law: Wi ll Van Abel, Bob and Helen Van Abel, Jerry Van Abel; a sister and a brothe r-in-law, Nancy and Bud Grams.The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2003 at St. Fra ncis Catholic Church of Hollandtown with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. B urial will take place in the parish cemetery. Friends will be receiv ed at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukau na on Sunday, April 6, 2003 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and again on Mo nday at Church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. A parish prayer s ervice will conclude the evening Sunday at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a me morial is being established in his name.
