- John J. Green Jr., 83, Freedom, died unexpectedly at home Monday, Dec. 14, 2009. He was born in Freedom, Wis., on March 11, 1926, to the late John and Dora (Verhasselt) Green. John married Germaine Diedrick on Nov. 27, 1956, at St. Nicholas Parish, Freedom.
An Army veteran, he belonged to the VFW Post 7692, Freedom, and Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, Little Chute. As a member of St. Nicholas Parish, John served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. John retired from Thilmany Pulp & Paper Co. in 1989. He also drove for Swinkles Bussing.
John loved to go to his cabin on Berry Lake. He and Germaine vacationed in Florida each winter. He was an avid card player and enjoyed word-find puzzles. He also enjoyed walking, riding his bike and tinkering with things. John was loyal to the Packers, Brewers and Badgers.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Germaine; children, Randy (Vicky), Freedom; Shari (Mike) Greiner, Freedom; Jay (friend, Tien Pham), Tampa, Fla.; and Tammy (Bert) Lim, Whitefish Bay; grandchildren, Sarah (Eric) Kranski, Paige Green, Nicholas (Kristen), Aren and Heather (friend, Kyle Early) Greiner, Abby and Lydia Lim; brothers and sisters, Rosella Kortz, Verna Berken, Francis Moudry and Eleanor (Bud) Bowers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim Van Vreede, Larry (Dolly) Diedrick and Helen Diedrick; godchildren, LeAnn, Nancy, Dan, Ken and Mike; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his infant daughters, Sharon and Mary; brothers and sisters, Norbert (Harriet), William (Lorraine), Vincent (Elaine), Robert (Beady) and Charlotte Green, Florence (Leo) Schmidt, and Esther Van Vreede; and brothers-in-law, Orin Kortz, Gerald Berken, Leo Weiland, Harry Moudry and Richard Diedrick.
The family will hold a private service.
The family would like to thank Deacon Don Newhouse, the Gold Cross EMTs, Angela Bellile and John Arnoldusen, the Freedom First Responders and Freedom Officer Chris Nechodom for all the support and compassion given to John, Germaine and their family.
