- Helen Dora McMahon, age 84, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 06, 2015, at Appleton Medical Center. Helen was born in Quarry, WI on December 6, 1930, to the late Edward and Clara (Matthies) Lex. Helen graduated with the class of 1948 at Appleton High School. On August 22, 1953, she was united in marriage to La Moine "Porky" McMahon at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. The couple enjoyed 33 years together until Porky passed away in September of 1986. Helen worked as a secretary for many years at Memorial Presbyterian Church and Emanuel United Methodist Church in Appleton, retiring in 1987. She was a 70 plus year member at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Appleton, and belonged to Home and Community Education, formerly known as the Homemakers.
Helen is survived by her two sons: Steve and Bob McMahon, both of Appleton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers: Gorman (Blanche) Lex, Edward (Laura) Lex, Ralph (Evelyn) Lex, and Vernon (Cecelia) Lex; and three sisters: Leona (Al) Jagdveld, Ruth Lex, and Marie Lex.
A memorial service will take place at 11 am, Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at Memorial Presbyterian Church, 803 E. College Ave. Appleton, with Rev. Michael Goodwin officiating. Friends may visit at the church on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of service. Rather than flowers, the family kindly asks that you make a memorial contribution in Helen's name to the St. Joseph Food Program, 1465A Opportunity Way, Menasha, WI 54952.
