Age 65, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at her home following a bo ut with diabetes. She was born January 26, 1936 in Freedom; daughter of t he late Pater and Nellie (Arnoldussen) Kieffer. On April 21, 1955, Betty m arried Ben Verbeten at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom; he preced ed her in death on December 1, 1999. The couple resided in Freedom, Wright stown, the Town of Vandenbroek and the Village of Little Chute (until pres ent). Betty enjoyed meeting people and participating in card games. She lo ved to cook and bake for the enjoyment of family and friends. Betty enjoy ed singing throughout her life and was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Chu rch, where she sang in the Queen of Peace Choir. Survivors include two so ns and a daughter-in-law: Dan (Chris) Verbeten, Appleton; Don Verbeten, Gr een Bay; a grandson, Josh; a brother and three sisters-in-law: Carl Kieffe r, Freedom; Ruth Kieffer, Kaukauna; Mary "Sis" Kieffer, Kimberly; Eva Kief fer, Appleton; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Janet Van Handel, Kimberl y; Audrey (Bud) Albers, De Pere; numerous nieces and nephews. Betty is fur ther survived by her husband's family: Clem (Rose) Verbeten, August (Mari e) Mielke, Mary Burriss, Dorothy Zirbel, Iris (Ben) Valk, and Lillian Ruck darkel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; four brothers: Orvi lle, Earl, Gordon and Elmer; two brothers-in-law: John Peters and Matt V an Handel; three sisters-in-law: Magdalen Kieffer, Lorraine Kieffer and Ge orgiana Kieffer. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Ho ly Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemeter y, Wrightstown. Friends may call directly at the church from 8:30 a.m. Sat urday until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund h as been established in her name for Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Nat ional Diabetes Association. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukau na is assisting the family with arrangements.
