- Van De Hey, Arvilla Imelda Kempen, Sutherlin, Oregon Age 84, passed away July 25, 2003. She was born February 20, 1919 in Woodv ille, Wisconsin to William H. and Heniretta (Arts) Kempen. She was rais ed on a farm and was the oldest of six siblings. She graduated from high s chool in Little Chute, WI with perfect attendance. After high school she w orked at St. Lawrence College in Appleton. WI. She married Roche J. V an De Hey on June 18, 1940 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Hollandtow n, WI. They started their family in Manitowoc, WI and built their first ho me in Whitelaw, WI. Arvilla was very active in the Rosary, Altar Society a nd Christian Mother of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whitelaw, as we ll as a 4-H Leader. In 1963 the family moved to a farm outside of Whitelaw .In 1966 Arvilla and Roche moved their family to Sutherlin, Oregon. There s he participated in Lady Lions and served as President in 1971-72 and 1973- 74. She was the oldest living member of the Lady Lions and had received h er 35-year membership pin recently. She was a member of St. Francis Xavi er Catholic Church and Altar Society since 1966. Arvilla prided herse lf in her homemaking and excellent seamstress skills and passed these skil ls on to her children. Arvilla became an accomplished artist after raisi ng 11 children. Her children have appreciated her oil paintings in their h omes. She loved to play cards with her family and friends every chance s he got. Our mother was a saint...for all she did for children; she sacrifi ced a lot for us, took good care of us, set us straight and tried to gi ve as much time to us as she she could...and then she got very, very tired .Arvilla and Roche developed and operated the Sutherlin Knolls from 19 75 to 1986.She is survived by her husband, Roche Van De Hey of 63 years and sons: Ric hard (Mona) Van De Hey, Eugene; Daniel Van De Hey, Eugene; Gerald (fianc ee Judy) Van De Hey, Sutherlin; Lee (Angie) Van De Hey, Newberg. She is al so survived by seven daughters: Sandra (Richard) Brady, Salem; Pamela Henn richs, Oakland; Penelope (Dennis) Towne, Lake Oswega; Donna (Robert) Ellio tt, Salem; Debra (Herman Stonebraker, Lake Oswego; Kim (John) Hensley, Eug ene; Rochelle (Mark) Cornilsen, Oakland; 22 grandchildren: Dean and Cra ig Van De Hey, Scott, Ryan and Shaun Brady, Brian Hennricks and Nicole Sch oenhals, Curtis and Amy Van De Hey, Jill Dixon, Todd Johnson and Robin Sta ncliff, Tyler and Chad Elliott, Emily and Dane Stonebraker, Jacob Hensle y, Nickles and John Cornilsen, Chelsey, Stefanie, and Zachary Van De He y; 15 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousin s. She is also survived by her sisters: Evelyn Van Lanen, Cordell Hurst, a nd Delores Schaefer and husband, Jerry; her sisters-in-law: Irene Kempen a nd Germaine Kempen, all of Wisconsin. She is further survived by her husba nds family, Majilla Ambrosius, Robert and Rita Van De Hey, Lloyd and Pat V an De Hey, Kathy and Russ Beck, Theresa Eiting, Marie and Dick Reetz, Conn ie and Dorothy Van De Hey, all of Wisconsin. Arvilla was preceded in dea th by her parents, her brothers, Melin and Russell Kemper, brothers-in-la w: Ralph Van Lanen, Harold Rosin, Floyd Hurst and her in-laws: Elmer and M ill Van De Hey, Norbert Ambrosias, Pauline Van De Hey, Robert Frank, Harla nd Eiting and Sly Thiele. Arvilla's love for her family and friends will a lways be cherished.Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Chapel of t he Firs, 881 W. Sixth St., Sutherlin. The reading of the Holy Rosary wi ll follow the visitation. A Funeral Mass will be 12:10 p.m. Thursday, Ju ly 31, 2003 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 323 N.
