Abram Volentine Answers the Final Roll Call- Was Pioneer of Bovina
Abram Volentine died at his home in Shiocton Sunday morning, Nov. 2, aged 73 years
five months and 16 days.
Mr. Volentine had been ill for several weeks and failed rapidly during the last two weeks of his illness.
He was born at Vermillion, Erie Co. Ohio April 19, 1840. When 21 years old he enlisted in Co. K. 8th Ohio Vol. Inf. and served 17 months. He was then transferred to the 6th U. S. cavalry and later to the 2nd U. S. cavalry, serving in all 3 years 7 months
and 21 days.
In 1867 he was married to Mary Ann Kennedy at York, Ohio. In 1877 they came to Wisconsin, living at Medina for one winter and their moving to the town of Bovina where he has lived nearly ever since.
He is survived by his wife and four children, Mrs. H. H. Langman, Mrs. Bert Thompson and Orlo of Shiocton, and Mrs. H. A. Boynton of Tacoma, Washington.
The funeral was held from the Shiocton Congregational church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Allen Adams of the Seymour M. E. church conducting the services.
Mr. Volentine was one of the pioneers of Bovina and like all of the old pioneers he worked hard and endured hardships that he might carve a home out of the wilderness.
As a husband, father, neighbor and friend, Mr. Volentine is very highly spoken of. The old soldiers, of the community attended the funeral in a body, and the large concourse of friends who assembled to pay their last respects to one who had lived so long in
their midst shows the esteem in which he was he was held.
